Two years from 3.11 and Disaster Prevention Solution

At 14:46 on March 11, 2011, I was at my office on the 36th floor of a building in Tokyo. I felt a big shake never experienced. After a while, the floor began to slide back and forth, and it gradually becomes a large swing, made me realize that the floor is moving several meters. While feeling fear as if the building might collapse sometime soon, we all have to stay on the floor holding the desk and could not do anything else.

“Expectation for Cool Japan”

Now London Olympic game is starting and I enjoy watching the games of world athletes.

In terms of our industry products, I would like to mention about “What will be the strengths of Japan in the future?”
In the past, the strengths of Japan were all kind of goods
(hardware) includes home appliances, automobiles, and so on. Now some kinds of goods have been replaced by China, Korea and other Asian countries, because of our dropping international competitiveness.

“Census on the Japanese IT Industry”

In Japan, the national census data on IT industry used to be obtained from METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry)’s report “Survey of Selected Service Industries (on yearly basis in Japanese)” which used to be conducted in November every year. The survey results of November 2010 were made public in February this year 2012. We can see that information-related service industry in Japan of 2010 shows the scale of approx. 19 trillion yen (238 billion US$) sales and 912 thousand related employees, but we can also see that those figures had declined for the first time greatly from the previous year. It may partly be influenced by Japanese economic environment under long-continued deflation pressure, global credit uncertainty and yen-value appreciation etc. Under such circumstances, it may say that Japanese IT industry itself is facing two inexperienced challenges 1) acceleration of overseas shift from domestic manufacturing and 2) movement from possession to utilization like cloud computerization.

Spirit of Manufacturing Products in Japan

Although I have not specialized in any field of technology, since I was a university student, I have been interested in why the economy of Japan could have prospered so much, especially around end of 1980’s. As it is often explained, it is because Japan was able to establish manufacturing technology that could produce goods of high quality. But why could the Japanese have manufactured goods of thehighest quality, and not the Americans?
