In Asian countries, expectations are running high for the computerization of various social public systems, for many of which Japanese technologies and experience can be utilized. CICC other suggestions to and exchange opinions with Asian countries on such systems and technologies, and promotes joint development and test projects.
For instance, the Initiative for Multimedia Information
Technology Toward 21st Century Project (I-MITT21) with China (1998 to 2003)
was a project in which joint efforts were made to develop 6 types of social
life systems including those for education, medical care and environmental
protection, based on Japanese technologies and experience. In 2004, new
efforts were started to make use of the experience in China in other parts
of Asia. |

The Asian Forum for Information Technology (AFIT) is a network comprised of three groups of members: (1) organizations from various countries, which collaborate with the CICC whenever it develops individual computerization cooperation programs for the Asian region, (2) the relevant organizations of the Japanese government and (3) the industrial sector.
Currently, organizations from 19 countries/regions are key members in the AFIT. There, through daily discussions and exchanging information through e-mails and frequent experts visits, they share with each other a wide variety of information related to the computerization of Asia, and extract the issues which have to be tackled. Also, in order to provide an arena where online discussions can be summed up, the AFIT Conference is organized once a year for face-to-face discussions on specific topics, potential future cooperation, practical problem-handling, and so forth.
